Proposal Story

Jacob surprised me one afternoon, knocked on the door (dressed in suspiciously nice clothes), and told me to put on something nice. He told me he was taking me to all of the spots we had our “firsts”. The first kiss was outside my house, so he walked me to the spot we kissed, and snapped a Polaroid. We got in the car and drove to Eat Street and got our favourite food, which is where we had our first date. We drove around some more and finally landed at Kangaroo Point; this place was special. Earlier in our relationship we went there on a date, and as cheesy as it sounds, I read Jacob some of my diary about my future husband-to-be. So he took me back there, uttered some words and said “this is the place where I knew I wanted to marry you”. He then got down on one knee and popped the question. I was in shock and didn’t reply for a solid minute. Jacob was freaking out.. “So?!!!” And we all know
my answer.

What does marriage mean to you?

Marriage means choosing each other. Every. Single. Day. Even when we don’t feel like it, even when we have every reason not to, it’s about sacrifice, love and honouring one another in everything we do.

Why did you choose The Hideaway?

Hideaway Weddings is such a beautiful location hidden in the forest. It has a warm, rustic feel to it that just felt like home.

Describe your theme for the day

Our “theme” was a rustic edge, which was minimalistic. Lots of wood, dried flowers and candles.

Did you incorporate any traditions or perhaps do something a little different?

I (Alanna) wrote a song for Jacob and sung it at the wedding! I’m always writing, but Jacob didn’t know I’d ever wrote a song about him.

Alanna’s highlight of the day

I loved every part of our day, but I think for me the highlight was actually leaving the reception. It was these moments after where we could enjoy each others company, relax, talk about our days, and be together officially as husband and wife!

Jacob’s highlight of the day

Having our families together to celebrate our big day was a huge highlight.

Tips or words of wisdom for future brides/grooms-to-be

Be quick to forgive!

Did you enjoy a honeymoon? If so, how and why did you choose your destination?

We loved our honeymoon. Although it wasn’t what we had originally planned, we were still able to enjoy time away at the Gold Coast. We visited the beach, markets, restaurants, shops – you name it.
