Anita & Jacob
03 • 03 • 2018
We met in year 10 of high school. We were friends and remained in contact even though we both moved away to study and work. In 2014, Jacob moved to France to be in the army. In 2016, Jacob came home for a holiday and we started dating. Between 2016 and 2018 we dated on and off via long distance. Since we started dating, including our wedding, we spent 60 days together in two years. In 2017 while I (Anita) was working in Greece, Jacob visited me for a few weeks. We did talk about getting married but as Jacob’s current army contract didn’t finish until 2019 we thought it would be many years away. Last December Jacob found out he was getting a holiday in March so we decided to get married and then I (Anita) would move to France. Jacob officially asked me to marry him and gave me a ring a few days before our wedding, while we were in the car eating take out India food in the carpark of Kawana Shopping Centre – very romantic! Haha.
Why did you choose The Hideaway?
As far as weddings go, ours was pretty late notice and I was not sure if many venues would have vacancies on the dates when Jacob would be home. My (Anita’s) parents and I had seen The Hideaway online and I loved the rainforest/forest style. I always wanted an outdoor ceremony with lots of shade for an afternoon wedding. By chance, The Hideaway happened to have a weekend free, and when I visited for the open day I fell in love with the grounds and rooms.
Describe your theme for the day
I was going for a forest/bohemian theme, I don’t know if we achieved this but that was my original goal. Jacob and I didn’t have a bridal party but we decided on a burgundy, navy and white colour theme.
Anita’s highlight of the day
I loved catching up with people and mingling during the canapé time. I LOVED the flowers, they were my favourite thing about my outfit and they looked amazing in the reception room.
Jacob’s highlight of the day
My highlight of the day was having fun with all our guests at the reception and listening to the speeches. I also enjoyed working with Amy the photographer, we were both super nervous about getting photos and she made it such a fun and relaxed experience.
Tips or words of wisdom for future brides/grooms-to-be
When the day was over, I (Anita) wished I hadn’t stressed as much because honestly it all came together beautifully on the day. I think you just have to trust that it will all be lovely in the end.
