How and when did the two of you meet?
Jarrad & I met in 2010 whilst camping at Calliope River in Queensland. Jarrad was kayaking along the river, and I [Karley] swam out to say hello. When I realised he was pretty damn cute, I tipped him out of the kayak and stole it, making him swim back to shore.
We had a family trip planned to New Zealand and Jarrad thought this was the perfect opportunity.
Jarrad had decided he would propose to me on a boat ride through the breathtaking Millford Sound Waterfalls, but I was terribly motion sick, making it impossible for Jarrad to propose. He needed to think of plan B. So, he thought he would propose in the glow worm cave…but then it was too dark and rocky. It was time for plan C.
We took a boat ride with my [Karley’s] family and Jarrad wanted to propose on the punting along the river, but my Grandma kept awkwardly saying it would be the perfect time to propose to me – Jarrad knew he needed to get me away on my own! So finally, plan D; they went for a walk together through the botanical gardens where they were on land and on their own, and the perfect time finally arrived! Karley sat down in a gorgeous field and Jarrad asked her to stand up, and when she did he pulled out a gorgeous zip tie ring…Karley cried with happiness, and maybe with a few tears – it finally happened!
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage means two people joining their lives together. It means that you marry the one person you want to be with forever.
Why did you choose The Hideaway?
We choose Hideaway Weddings because of the atmosphere and the way it spoke to us. From the moment we met Amanda, we knew it was perfect. The entire venue and reception area met exactly what we were after. The idea of having everything in the one place made our wedding so simple. Hideaway Weddings assisted us with many choices, having everything from table and aisle decorations, arbour details, table signing, wishing well, and all those smaller details you might forget!
Did you incorporate any traditions or perhaps do something a little different?
We incorporated a candle lighting ceremony for Karley’s Dad and Uncle, and Jarrad’s Grandma, and we had family members light the candle in their honour.
Jarrad’s highlight of the day
Seeing my gorgeous soon-to-be wife walking down the aisle. The whole day in general was a highlight!
Karley’s highlight of the day
From the moment I walked down the aisle, to marrying my best friend, eating yummy food cooked by an amazing lady, the dancing – oh the dancing with Aaron [Cut a Rug] was so fun – to our sparkler exit at the end. The whole day was just perfect!
Tips or words of wisdom for future brides/grooms-to-be
Enjoy every moment of the day.. it goes so quick before you even know it!
Did you enjoy a honeymoon? If so, how and why did you choose your destination?
We went on a small honeymoon to Secrets on the Lake in Montville; a small hidden destination where mobile service is limited, allowing us to fully be present with each other. It’s a hidden gem based around Lake Baroon, and we were in a treetop cabin. Lovely staff, lovely surrounds and a calm feeling.
