Proposal Story

After four and a half years of fun and laughter together, Glen designed the most beautiful ring for Michelle and proposed at the Byron Bay lighthouse at sunset on July 26th, 2019.

What does marriage mean to you?

The official seal that unites two people who would do anything and everything for each other, and a bond that cannot be broken. Two people who genuinely want to grow old together and cannot see a future without the other person.

Why did you choose The Hideaway?

Not only have we discussed the option of making the town of Beerwah our future home, but it’s also a big part of our past with Michelle’s mother Rita growing up on a pineapple farm just a stones throw away from the venue, and Glen’s mother Jane growing up in nearby Maleny. We heard about Hideaway Weddings through family living nearby, and upon inspection of the venue and meeting the team, we knew we were onto a winner!

Describe your theme for the day

The perfect way to describe our theme for our day would be ‘Eclectic’. We gathered a few photos and ideas that we wanted incorporated into our day, and left the rest in the hands of our very trusty and talented vendors.

Did you incorporate any traditions or do something a little different?

Our wine wall was a big feature for our ceremony. We both love organising parties and events, and we wanted the wedding to be just as enjoyable for our very special guests as it was for us. The wine wall was used to kick off the celebrations with a fun way to display drinks on arrival.

Due to travel restrictions, we had quite a few guests unable to make our special day. In order to ensure everyone could join in the celebrations from their interstate or international couches, we organised a live stream of the ceremony. This was an awesome addition with the added benefit of us being able to relive the ceremony the next day.

Michelle’s highlight of the day

I loved our ceremony. Having my Mum and Dad walk me down the aisle and hand me over to an emotional Glen was a beautiful experience. We chose the Orchid Deck ceremony location which was so lovely!

Glen’s highlight of the day

Seeing our extended family and friends all together and getting along like they’ve known each other their whole life. Michelle as she walked down the aisle definitely didn’t disappoint and it will be burned into my mind for all my life – she looked amazing!

Tips or words of wisdom for future brides/grooms-to-be

Google sheets should be your best friend during wedding budget/schedule planning and tracking. Try to organise everything as early as possible to make the day as stress free as possible. Remember to delegate jobs to your bridal party and take some time out for yourself on the day.
