Taylor & Shanon

How and when did the two of you meet?
Shanon and I met at Buderim Primary school. We had a few years apart, and then we ended up in the same friend group at the end of high school. After high school we became best friends, hanging out together everyday, and then we started dating.
Tell us all about your proposal story:
It was one of Taylor’s life goals to go to America for her 21st Birthday, so we saved up money and went travelling for 3 weeks.
On the last night of our trip, Shanon booked tickets to a musical and dinner afterwards.
After dinner we went for a walk around Times Square, and Shanon asked a stranger to take a “photo” (it was a video). It was then that Shanon got down on one knee and proposed. Taylor was not only shocked by the proposal, but also the fact that Shanon got down on one knee after eating a full plate of American ribs!
What does marriage mean to you?
It means a deep connection of love and loyalty, not only to each other, but to your entire family. Marriage means Family.
Why did you choose Hideaway Weddings?
We loved the atmosphere as soon as we walked through the first twilight showcase. Amanda and Tegan gave off a lovely energy and made us feel so excited to get married at The Hideaway. We also loved the natural surrounds, and the many outdoor ceremony areas met our vision, as well as an onsite wet weather option
Describe your theme for the day and the inspiration behind it:
Rustic, with the addition of The Hideaway’s new dried flower arrangements. Lots of burnt orange to match the bridesmaid’s rust coloured dresses, with a matching tie for the groomsmen.
I [Taylor] personally just love autumn colours, and with the cooler weather in May, I thought it would tie in nicely.
Did you incorporate any traditions or perhaps do something a little different?
At Taylor’s Mum’s wedding, her dad Robbie played a song for her on guitar and sang. Taylor was 7 at the time and knew that one day she would like to do that on her wedding day.
So Taylor wrote Shanon a song for their wedding day, and sang and played guitar for him.
What were the highlights of your day for you? (Taylor)
FINALLLYYYY getting married. It has been such a rollercoaster of emotions the last year, and as soon as the celebrant pronounced us husband and wife, it was the happiest moment of my life.
The first dance on the deck was magical and felt really intimate. Even though our guests were watching us, the night sky and the fairy lights made it feel like we were the only two people out there. I also really loved Carla, the MC. She was constantly checking up on us and made the night so much fun. We have had so many compliments from our guests about her.
What were the highlights of your day for you? (Shanon)
The day finally coming around!!
Everything, from all the emotions, to just seeing my family and my partner’s family all in one place. Having the ceremony in such a magical place was amazing, and the staff were constantly asking if we were okay or if there was anything we needed, and just kept us updated so we could keep on track or just top up on another drink – it was awesome. The sparkler send-off was also amazing.
Any tips or words of wisdom to offer other couples?
You need to remember that it’s a day about the two of you. Family, guests and the people who thought that they would be invited can make a fuss all they want, but it’s not about them at the end of the day. As long as you and your partner are happy, that’s ALL that matters.
Also, don’t sweat the small stuff. You can plan as much as you want, but the day will never go exactly as you planned…and you don’t really want it to. We had the most fun when things didn’t go exactly to plan, and we just went with the flow. We found our guests enjoyed it too!
Did you enjoy a honeymoon? If so, how and why did you choose your destination?
Yes, we went to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat. It was awesome!
Again, we love nature and exploring, and the multiple walking tracks and activities they have to offer drew us in. We stayed in one of the Villas where you are up high in the trees with a view of a valley. Very Romantic at sunset.
